Boundless gratitude: After his mother was lost in a car accident, an orphaned deer was rescued and cared for, becoming the boy’s best friend and spending hours playing together.
In a touching tale of friendship, an orphaned baby deer named Ziggy has formed an unbreakable bond with the baby daughter of her rescuer, Jeremy Goldsmith, who manages Mountfitchet Castle, a historic Norman fortress and museum in Essex.
Ziggy, estimated to be around two months old, was found by a passer-by on the side of a road in Stansted Mountfitchet after her mother was tragically struck by a car. The passer-by immediately contacted Mountfitchet Castle, and Jeremy didn’t hesitate to take the fawn in, providing her with a cozy shed to call home.
Remarkably, Ziggy quickly adapted to her new surroundings and developed a special friendship with Jeremy’s 11-month-old daughter, Isabella. The two have become inseparable, spending hours together as Isabella showers Ziggy with affectionate strokes and kisses.
Jeremy, 56, shared, “We’re a family that loves animals, and I’ve made sure to raise my daughter with the same values. The bond between Isabella and Ziggy is so natural and pure; they’ve formed an extraordinary connection.”
Mountfitchet Castle is already home to a small herd of fallow deer, similar to Ziggy, who will now join them and enjoy a life of care and companionship. However, Jeremy noted that Ziggy is too tame to be released back into the wild, explaining, “She’s become too accustomed to human contact and wouldn’t be safe in the wild.”
This isn’t the first time a child has forged an unexpected friendship with a wild animal. In 2021, a young boy named Dominic from Virginia made headlines when he befriended a baby deer during a family vacation at Massanutten resort. The boy’s mother, Stephanie Brown, was astonished when Dominic appeared on their porch with the deer, which he had named Flash after the DC Comics superhero. The heartwarming moment was captured in a photo that quickly went viral, garnering thousands of likes and shares on social media.
As for Ziggy and Isabella, their unique bond is a testament to the innocent and pure connection that can exist between humans and animals. Jeremy’s family continues to nurture this special relationship, ensuring Ziggy will live a life filled with love, care, and plenty of playtime.
